Local Reproductive Endocrinologist Utilizing New Form of Genetic Screening
A new form of genetic screening that allows would-be parents to detect birth defects and high-risk pregnancies has made it possible for in virto fertilization doctors to identify these complications before a woman even become pregnant. Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening is a new, highly-advanced form of testing that made it possible for doctors to screen for conditions such as Down syndrome, significantly reduce the risk of miscarriage in women with recurrent pregnancy failure, and ensures a safer pregnancy for women past the age of 34. Dr. John Couvaras, a Scottsdale-based Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist, is leading the way in utilizing Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening (PGS), which is performed along with Assisted Reproductive Techniques to ensure a healthy and safe pregnancy for both mother and baby.
“The ability to perform this highly advanced, highly specialized form of screening is a major advancement in the area of genetic testing,” says Couvaras, Laboratory and Medical director for IVF Phoenix. For more information about IVF Phoenix visit IVFPhoenix.com.

Valley Surgeon Develops New Alternative to the Traditional Facelift
After 20 years of research, a renowned Scottsdale-based plastic surgeon has developed a new alternative to the face-lift tailored specifically to each where each individual falls on the aging spectrum. The GENXLIFT™ is a revolutionary new procedure developed by Dr. Daniel Shapiro that addresses the continuum of aging that begins in the 30s and continues through the 50s and the first minimally-invasive procedure of its kind that offers rapid-healing and a less invasive alternative for patients not ready for a “full facelift” or want shorter downtime. This procedure does not need to be performed in the operating room and can be done as an in office procedure with local anesthesia and oral sedation, making the GENXLIFT an ideal alternative to the traditional facelift for Generation X, or people whose birth date fall between 1961 and 1981.
“Until now there hasn’t really been a procedure that specifically addresses just the intermittent signs of aging that are different for each person depending on their age, their genetics and other factors,” Shapiro says.
