Arizona Musicfest appoints New Board Members: Ken Olson and Roger Brooks
Ken Olson, president of Northern Trust Bank, Scottsdale and Roger Brooks, former chairman and chief operating officer of AmerUs, were unanimously appointed to serve on the Board of the organization, beginning with the 2015-2016 season.
“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Ken and Roger to the Arizona Musicfest Board,” says Chuck Goldthwaite, Arizona Musicfest Chairman. “The breadth of their leadership and expertise, as well as their profound passion for music, will be wonderful assets for our organization.” In 2016, Arizona Musicfest will celebrate its 25th anniversary.
A winter music festival held in North Scottsdale each season, Musicfest presents top artists of classical, chamber, jazz, Broadway, bluegrass and pop music. Artists for 2016 will include Al Jarreau, violin virtuoso Joshua Bell, Broadway star Faith Prince and the Festival Orchestra, featuring musicians from the nation’s finest orchestras. The Festival runs January 29 – March 11, 2016. Arizona Musicfest also provides music education programs, youth performance opportunities and scholarships to encourage emerging talent.
12th Annual “Connection of Hope” Celebrates Arizona Youth at Gala Benefitting Teen Lifeline
Teen Lifeline is a free peer-to-peer hotline for teens in crisis, as well as a statewide suicide awareness and prevention outreach program.
In Arizona, one child dies every 7.5 days by suicide. This heartbreaking tragedy is a grim reality for children far too often. There is hope. Teens by the thousands find hope and help each year through Teen Lifeline’s services. For 29 years, the hotline has been a “connection” of hope for teens in crisis. Some call just needing a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on; others call as a last resort. Whatever the reason, Teen Lifeline and the teen counselors are available 365 days a year, always ready to listen and help. Funds raised at the “Connections of Hope” event will support Teen Lifeline’s mission of erasing teen suicide. Paradise Valley entrepreneur and philanthropist Don Tapia will be honored at the event with the Alfredo J. Molina Community Lifeline Award.
This year’s fundraiser celebrates Arizona youth by highlighting the real-life stories of teens. Guests will be treated to a delectable dinner prepared by Chef Michael Cairns, live performances by Lelea & the 3Nations and Nate Nathan and the MacDaddy O’s. The event also features a live and silent auction. The event will be held on October 9th from 6-11 p.m. at the Montelucia Resort & Spa.
Arizona Biltmore Pairing Top Microbreweries with Original Menus
Arizona Biltmore, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, is brewing specialty dining experiences for guests that are offered monthly throughout the year in the private Sunroom at the resort’s Frank & Albert’s restaurant. The Biltmore Beer Dinners pair beers from top microbreweries with original menus by the resort’s chefs.

Rocky Mountain Emmy® Awards Tap David Koechner as 2015 Event Host
The Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) is pleased to announce that it has tapped actor, writer and producer David Koechner – best known for his roles as Todd Packer on “The Office” and Champ Kind from “Anchorman” – to host the 2015 Rocky Mountain Emmy® Awards, which will take place on Saturday, October 17 at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale.
“Each year, we strive to make the event a night to remember for the hardworking members of our media community. Phoenix Boys Choir to Honor Michael Marnard and Sal Rivera
The Phoenix Boys Choir will be “putting on the ritz” for its major gala, “That’s Entertainment!” on Saturday October 17, 2015, at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Hall of Steele Indian School Park. The annual gala raises funds to support the 68-year-old organization and its scholarship programs, which enable boys from all segments of the community to participate.
The October event will honor two community leaders and long-time supporters of the Boys Choir, Phoenix Theatre Artistic Director, Michael Barnard, and Sal Rivera, Partner of Rivera Law Group, P.C. Mr. Rivera, a Phoenix Boys Choir alumnus, will be honored with the “Leadership Through Song” award, and Mr. Barnard will be presented with “Heart of the Arts” award.
Both men have been involved with the Phoenix Boys Choir for many years and are vocal advocates for the positive impact the Choir has on forming the future leaders of tomorrow.
Sal Rivera is an active leader in Arizona, guiding numerous political, legal, community and charitable organizations. Rivera was also a former member of the Phoenix Boys Choir in his youth and has served on the Board of Trustees as its chairman.
Michael Barnard is currently entering his 17th season as Phoenix Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director, concentrating his efforts on the continued growth of the theatre in production, education and new work development. He is also a long-time supporter of the Phoenix Boys Choir, partnering with the organization on collaborative programs, vocal development and choreography.
The evening will feature extraordinary live and silent auctions, as well as cocktails and dinner catered by Michael Mazzocco of The Herb Box.

Wednesday, October 14, you can join two of the chamber’s networking events – a golf tournament and a business expo/mixer. The late afternoon golf tees up at 2:30 p.m. and the Paradise Valley Business Expo/Mixer commences at 4:30 p.m., concluding at 7:30 p.m. Both events are open to all business professionals.
The Paradise Valley Chamber of Commerce teamed up with Aranyi Cigars and the Orange Tree Golf Club as hosts for the quarterly community networking event.
Angels For Athletes 2015 Bowl-A-Thon
Angels for Athletes is a non-profit corporation founded in 2012 to help improve the lives of children by encouraging and supporting their active participation in recreational and competitive sports. “We envision a world of happy, healthy, and self-confident kids, and we believe that childhood participation in sports of all kinds helps to provide these invaluable lifelong benefits” says Founder Kara Stuart. The Angels for Athletes 2015 Bowl-A-Thon on October 24th is a fun way to raise money for kids in sports, too.
