Scottsdale City Ballet Launches

It’s official! Scottsdale now has its very own professional, performing ballet company. The new nonprofit organization was founded by Maggie Rupp, a professional ballerina who wants to shake up any preconceived notions about ballet being stuffy or sleepy.

Maggie has new and exciting ideas to make the ballet as accessible and fun as possible for the audience—including oldie’s music, local collaborations with artists and musicians, and even dinner theater entertainment. Did we mention beer, too?

Scottsdale City Ballet’s goal is to have an inaugural show this fall. The company has big plans but needs its community’s help to reach these goals. If you’re looking to donate or underwrite a performance, visit the organization’s website at or send an email to

Voila French Bistro Celebrates its Fourth Birthday

The restaurant industry is very competitive. Most restaurants close within the first year, so it’s worth celebrating every milestone thereafter! Chef Jean-Christophe Gros and his wife, Ségolène, moved to Scottsdale from France four years ago after having only spent one day here in 2007. The couple wanted to fulfill their American dream.

On Oct. 20, the couple is celebrating the fourth anniversary of their restaurant Voila French Bistro by hosting a special prix fixe, wine-paired dinner from 5-7 p.m., for just $79 per guest.

Chef Gros has been cooking for more than 30 years, and expertly trained by French master chefs, he prepares traditional French food with a modern approach.

The menu includes La Chartreuse, lump crab layered with vegetables and wrapped in lettuce leaves; Terre et Mer, Pork Surf & Turf, pork filets served with jumbo shrimp and a lobster sauce; and Chocolate Caramélia Valrhona Entremet, a flourless chocolate cake with caramel chocolate mousse.

True Salt Launches Two New Salt Products

Local Valley company True Salt, which is dedicated to bringing to market a cleaner, tastier, and better sea salt, recently expanded its product line with the addition of flake salt and cocktail salt. These new additions are in response to the demand for new sea salt products since their launch just last year. The salts are available to both consumers, as well as for commercial use.

Designed specifically for rimming cocktail glasses and adding additional flavor to drinks, True Salt’s new cocktail salt was created in collaboration with mixologists to provide both the flavor and visual presence needed to make craft cocktails come to life. It brings flavor and depth to cocktails from margaritas to salty dogs.

True Salt’s flake salt is designed to be a finishing salt that enhances both the flavor and appearance of dishes. Flake salt can be used as an enhancement for sweets (sprinkled on chocolate chip cookies, for example) as well as seafood and steaks.

The company also offers kosher grain, fine grain and coarse grain products.
