Celebrate the
New Year.

With the New Year upon us, most of us turn our thoughts to resolutions and goals for the months ahead. A majority of these goals have to do with health and fitness. However, most of us struggle with the question “What does it actually mean to be healthy?”

Around Town

Kick off the New Year with a much-loved Arizona tradition, the Annual Fiesta Bowl Parade, held on Saturday, January 2 at 11 a.m. in Downtown Phoenix. This year’s theme will be “Arizona’s Got Game,” as the Fiesta Bowl is known for more than just the two games that it puts on each year. At the Fiesta Bowl, they want to…

Find Your Park

While the New Year often seems to encourage many to head indoors to their neighborhood gyms and work on their fitness resolutions, the folks at the National Parks Service (NPS) hope you will consider heading back outdoors to join them for a year-long celebration marking the department’s 100th anniversary. The campaign, Find Your Park, began in 2015 and is purposed…

Champion Spirit

There are hardly words to describe the pure joy and sense of satisfaction one feels when they are doing something they truly love. Hard to Believe It’s Healthy

I always find it fascinating when I hear the stories behind how businesses and products got their start. Jewels Bakery and Café has one of those stories. The seed for the business was unknowingly planted in 2009, when Julie Moreno’s nine-year-old daughter, Sophia, was diagnosed with Celiac disease. Moreno, a wife, mother of six children and first grade teacher, soon…

The Power of 30 Minutes

A few months after I welcomed my third child into the world, I decided it was time to get back in shape. I had gained a whopping 40 pounds during my pregnancy, which seems to be the norm for my poor five-foot two-inch frame. I also worked full-time. Needless to say, by month seven or eight, the idea of taking…
